Remember what was installed and where it belongs
The tile, fixtures, finishes and appliances in each room, with product numbers in the notes and an estimated value.
What it holds
Inventory is kept room by room, for the parts of the house that are hard to identify years later. Each entry has the item, the room, an estimated value and notes. The notes carry what a matching repair needs: manufacturer, product number, color code, supplier and dimensions.
- Tile, flooring and stone
- Paint colors and finishes
- Light and plumbing fixtures
- Built-in and major appliances
- Spare materials kept from the original work
Belongings
Owners can also list furniture, art and electronics as an insurance record. That part is optional. Inventory moves with the rest of the record when the home is transferred, so remove personal belongings first if they should not go to the buyer.
When it helps
A kitchen floor tile cracks when the refrigerator is pulled out. The inventory entry has the manufacturer, product number and supplier, so the replacement order is one phone call. Matching a discontinued tile by eye can take weeks.
